The case study has been prepared for a Spanish discounter to show with numbers and figures the first in-class performances of the new EPTA vertical positive cabinet, the Zenith. Leveraging the Life Cycle Cost approach, both remote and integral versions of Granvista and Zenith have been compared over a period of 10 years and in a reference store configuration. Final results highlight significant savings thanks to the lower energy consumption of the Zenith.

Installation benefits

Although the initial investment for the new Zenith is higher compared to its predecessor, the energy consumption is significantly lower, allowing an important saving over the entire product lifecycle. Hence, CAPEX and OPEX analysis shows a clear benefit for the customer: the price difference between the new and old vertical positive cabinets, both remote and integral versions, is offset by energy saving in 2.5-3 years.

The study also evaluates the reduction of the integral cabinets’ impact on air‑conditioning consumption.

grafico zenith 1

The graph reports the simulation results for remote versions: the new Zenith is offered with a +10% price compared to Granvista, but the operating costs, including maintenance and refrigerant leakage, are 29% lower over a 10 years assets lifetime. Overall, a 24% saving is achieved, with respect to CAPEX.

grafico zenith 2

The graph reports the simulation results for integral versions: the new Zenith is offered with a +10% price compared to Granvista, but the operating costs, including impact on HVAC, are 28% lower, and maintenance and refrigerant leakage costs are 50% lower over a 10 years assets lifetime. Overall, a 31% saving is achieved with respect to CAPEX.
