Austria | Sustainable Modernisation of a Regional Meat Processing Facility

In 2024, an Austrian company that is closely integrated with the local area, producing and processing meat sourced from local farms, has decided to restructure and expand its production center.
With the comprehensive modernisation of its site, the family-owned company has invested in sustainable technology and modern production conditions. Two highly efficient CO₂ refrigeration systems from Hauser now ensure reliable cooling, greater energy efficiency and improved working conditions.

Renewing the refrigeration system proved challenging: following completion of the shell construction, the old system had to be dismantled, and the new refrigeration system installed while meat processing and retail operations continued. Cooling is now provided by two transcritical CO₂ refrigeration systems from Hauser with a total capacity of around 700 kW (MT+LT+AC). The refrigeration pack is equipped not only with Parallel compression technology but also with a well water subcooling system (180 kW). These two technologies ensure optimal performance even in high outdoor temperatures.

A key contribution to efficiency and sustainability is the recovery of waste heat, with the heat recovery system, from the refrigeration systems to heat the buildings, allowing a heat recovery capacity up to 500 kW. “We have noticed that we now require less energy per square metre. Thanks to heat recovery, we save around 25% in heating costs”, explains the Managing Director.
